Dyna-Band is a resistance band made of natural latex rubber that comes in four lengths and four strength levels. It is commonly used for arm, midsection, and leg workouts and is recommended by the medical community for rehabilitation.
Dyna-Band is a giant rubber band that provides resistance to certain muscles in the body during workouts. Its concept dates back to hospitals that began using rubber bands to rehabilitate the muscles of injured patients. Since then, it has expanded as a major component of the fitness world. Major Dyna-Band retailers include Crown World Marketing in the UK and Balls ‘N’ Bands in the US.
Each Dyna-Band is color coded, denoting its level of strength. The pink version stands for “light duty,” at 8mm thick and 4lbs (1.8kg) of maximum force when fully elongated. The green version is classified as “medium resistance”, consisting of 2 mm thickness and 7 pounds (3.2 kg) of maximum force. The purple version is the “high resistance” band, offering 16mm thickness and 9.5lbs (4.3kg) of maximum force. At the apex is the silver or gray “extra heavy duty” Dyna-Band, which is 22mm thick and applies up to 13 pounds (5.9kg) of force.
The Dyna-Band comes in four lengths. Each band is 3 to 6 inches (1.2 to 2.4 cm) long. There is also the option of getting all four strength levels for each length. Dyna-Band is made up of natural latex rubber, making it less susceptible to breakage than many other exercise bands.
Each Dyna-Band comes with a guide sheet booklet, providing over a dozen exercises to try. The resistance band is most commonly used for the arms. A popular exercise for that part of the body is to perform bicep curls by catching one end of the band with your foot while holding on to the other end.
The Dyna-Band can also be used to strengthen the midsection and legs. To perform a chest workout requires you to hold the band in front and stretch it from side to side; hold that position for about three seconds; then returning to the original position. Leg curls can be performed to strengthen the calves.
Dyna-Band continues to be recommended by members of the medical community for rehabilitation. Some exercise gurus and how-to videos rely on it for clients’ improved strength, calorie burn, stress relief, and weight loss. The Dyna-Band has also become a replacement band for owners of “EA Sports Active”, a 2009 video game exclusive to Nintendo’s Wii console system.
