A blower assembly consists of a motor, fan, and casing and is used in various equipment. It can vary in size, shape, and how it’s secured. The fan wheel is called a squirrel cage and can be delicate. Larger equipment may have dual blower assemblies. Cleaning consists of mild soap and water.

A blower assembly is used to distribute air to various types of equipment. It is commonly seen in automobiles, ovens and appliances. A typical assembly consists of a motor, a fan, and an outer casing. Some types of blower assemblies are more elaborate and have additional controls, legs, or capacitors.
In addition to the basic parts of a blower assembly, there are several ways the equipment can be varied. Depending on its use, the wheel can be extremely long or wide. There can also be wide variation in how the assembly is secured. This includes different sizes of casings, which can range from small, circular designs that aren’t much larger than the blower wheel to larger rectangular structures.

Depending on the use, the blower assembly can also be fixed to the equipment in various ways. Key considerations include how much space is available to protect the assembly and how much support the equipment needs, which typically depends on the size and horsepower of a particular component.

The fan wheel of a fan assembly is commonly referred to as the squirrel cage. Contains the motor, which is typically screwed into the center of the wheel. This piece is then housed in the outer casing.
Many pieces of a fan assembly are made from galvanized steel. While this does give the casings some strength, there are still some pieces of the assembly that can be delicate. The impeller vanes are particularly susceptible to damage and typically must be handled with care to avoid bending.

The configuration of a fan assembly depends on the size and needs of the element to be cooled. For small to medium sized equipment a single assembly is usually sufficient. Larger machines may have dual blower assemblies. These are typically mounted close to, though not right next to, each other.

The housing for the fan assembly will also vary, depending on the amount of space available. While the housings can be made snug and still function adequately, these dimensions are not ideal. For optimal performance, it will be manufactured with extra clearance so parts have room to function efficiently.

Servicing a fan assembly typically consists of cleaning the motor and fan wheel. A mild soap and medium water pressure are usually sufficient to clean the wheel without causing damage. While an engine can be vacuumed, simply sweeping away the accumulated dust and dirt can also be sufficient.
