What’s a funnel neck?

[ad_1]

A funnel neck is a type of upper torso garment similar to a turtleneck but with a larger neck hole. It is made in many styles and materials and is known to be roomy and warm. The collar folds smoothly on itself and can appear on a variety of garments. It may be referred to as a polo neck, skivvy, or mock neck outside of North America. Jackets with this style of collar usually have buttons or some other type of closure.

In fashion, a funnel neck is a type of upper torso garment. Similar to a turtleneck but with a much larger neck hole, this type of top fades in and out of popularity. Made in many styles and from many materials, a large number of clothing designers are known to produce such tops. With a variety of varieties from fleece to coat, jacket, sweater or pullover, these garments are known to be roomy. They are also generally warm.

Like a turtleneck, the funnel neck has a roll-style neckline. The funnel collar is usually much taller and longer than most blouse collars. It also folds or rolls smoothly on itself one or more times instead of having traditionally rigid folds or flaps. A proper funnel neck is an extension of the actual garment, not sewn in as a separate extension of the neckline.

Called a funnel neck because of its funnel shape, the shirt is donned by the wearer like any other top or blouse, pulling it over the head. Unlike turtlenecks or collared shirts, however, the collar flares out as it extends from the base of the neck, like a funnel. It has the ability to keep someone warm without cluttering up the neck area or feeling stiff and stiff.

Outside of North America, a turtleneck or funnelneck may also be referred to interchangeably as a polo neck, skivvy, or mock neck. Technically, a mock-style collar differs in that the ends of the roll are sewn into the shirt near the clavicle; hence the title “simulacra.” The mock neck can also be closed or left undone near the throat, while the neck roll remains stiff around the devil.

This collar can appear on a sweater, dress, jacket, coat, or any other type of garment that covers or provides additional warmth for the upper torso. When a sweater, pullover, or dress has a funnel neck, the garment is usually made of wool. Velvet and polyester funnel neck sweaters aren’t as common, but they do exist. Rayon, cotton, fleece, and wool are popular materials for such coats and jackets.

While funnel neck shirts are often solid or patterned, they may or may not be accessorized with additional accessories. Jackets with this style of collar usually have buttons or some other type of closure. They can also be adorned with zippers, although it is less common due to the stiffness of the zipper that interferes with the fluidity of the neck folds.
