The gallbladder aids in digesting fats by accumulating bile. It is non-essential and can cause problems such as gallstones or inflammation, leading to cholecystectomy. Women over forty and overweight are more likely to require removal, but some men also have issues. After removal, some people may have difficulty digesting fat.
The term golden bladder is an incorrect way of saying gallbladder. This can also be written as a gallbladder or called a gallbladder. It is an organ of the human body located under the liver. It can be called non-essential because people don’t need to have this organ, and many people have their gallbladder removed because of some problems they may develop.
The main function of the gallbladder is to aid in the digestion of fats. It does this by accumulating bile. The liver initially produces bile that helps break down foods, then the gallbladder receives some of it and turns it into concentrated bile that, when released, is even more effective at breaking down fat.
Many people may never be very aware of the gallbladder or its function unless they start having some problems associated with it. Sometimes bits of bile can crystallize and cause gallstones. These can make people acutely aware of this nonessential organ because they can be extremely painful, especially if stones cause inflammation of the gallbladder or if the stones pass into the bile duct.
Some people may also have gallbladder attacks from time to time, where the organ becomes inflamed and causes significant pain. Not all causes of these attacks are known and they may go away after some time or get worse. If they get worse, or when gallstones occur frequently, surgeons may choose to remove the organ in a procedure called a cholecystectomy.
Cholecystectomies are more common in some populations. Women over forty who may be overweight tend to be the group most likely to require gallbladder removal. A common medical slang abbreviation for these women, which isn’t particularly flattering, is 4F. This stands for forty, fat, female and freaked, or even less flattering or appropriate terms. However, the 4F designation can greatly simplify describing who may need a cholecystectomy. Many women under this age may need it and obesity need not be present; in addition, some men also have gallbladder problems.
While the body can function without a gallbladder, some people find they have more difficulty with digesting fat after a cholecystectomy. Others don’t have this problem, but some people may feel more comfortable if they reduce their fat intake. Fortunately, this procedure is common with few side effects afterward, and many are greatly relieved of painful symptoms through the removal of this non-essential organ.
