A litter cake is a cake made to look like a litter box, using cake, cookies, pudding, food coloring, and candy. It is suitable for Halloween parties and events for cat lovers with a sense of humor. The cake is presented in a new litter box with a pooper scooper for serving.

A litter cake is a joke cake that has been prepared in such a way that it looks like the contents of a recently used litter box. When done well, a litter pie can look alarmingly realistic, but for those who can stomach a slice, the pie is actually quite tasty. This joke cake is quite suitable for Halloween parties and can even be served at events held in honor of cat lovers, assuming they have a sense of humor.

To build a litter cake, cooks will need two cakes, a batch of vanilla cookies, a batch of vanilla pudding, green or blue food coloring and Tootsie wraps, husky almonds, or another candy that closely resembles the feline by-product commonly found in litter boxes. In addition to these ingredients, a new litter box and pan liner will be needed, along with a pooper scooper for serving.

The cakes used in a litter cake can be of any type; Many people like to use vanilla and spice cakes, but chocolate or other flavors could also be used. Try to choose a reasonably crumbly cake recipe and avoid dense, fuzzy cakes. Because the cakes will be broken apart to create the litter cake, they can be baked in pans of any shape and size and should be allowed to cool completely before the litter cake is assembled.

Start by crumbling the vanilla cookies into a coarse-grained consistency. Break the cakes into pieces and mix them with half the biscuits and enough pudding for the cake and biscuit mixture to be moist enough to come together. The goal is to glue the ingredients together, not form a soggy mass, and then carefully add the pudding. This mixture should be spooned into the lined litter box.

Spread the candy over the top of the cake before sprinkling half the cookie crumbs on top; if you use Tootsie rollers, consider heating them so you can mold them into a more realistic shape. Mix the other half of the cookie crumbs with food coloring and spread it over the top of the cake as well; the blue crumbs will mimic the odor-absorbing crystals used in many brands of commercial waste.

Ideally, the litter cake should be presented whole before serving, with the large basket scooper to scoop out the cake slices. For an added note of realism, a piece of candy can be draped over the side of the litter box.
