A boardroom is a room where an organization’s board of directors meets, often called a conference or meeting room. It typically has a conference table, chairs, audio-visual equipment, and a whiteboard. Larger boardrooms may have video conferencing equipment, high-quality wooden cabinets, and projection equipment.
A boardroom gets its name from the room where an organization’s board of directors meets. A boardroom is often called a conference room or meeting room. Company boardrooms are generally used for different types of meetings and training purposes.
In large corporations, a boardroom can be large with big windows and a view. In smaller businesses, a small meeting room might as well have no windows. Some companies have more than one meeting room and require rooms to be booked in advance by staff.
All meeting rooms have a conference table and chairs. Small meeting rooms can seat just six, while larger meeting rooms can seat fourteen or more. Meeting room chairs may be upholstered in leather or upholstery material and are usually not bare wood or bare metal, even in smaller meeting rooms. Conference tables can come in any shape, such as round or square in smaller meeting rooms and rectangular or oval in larger meeting rooms. A meeting table can also be U-shaped or be constructed with a split section to allow for training equipment and/or video conferencing equipment.
Video conferencing equipment allows people who are not physically present to join the boardroom meeting via computer. Boardrooms often have cabinets to store different types of audio-visual equipment when not in use. Fancier meeting rooms have high-quality wooden cabinets that look like furniture rather than storage. Most meeting rooms also have a coffee cart, air conditioning, and ports for Internet access.
A boardroom may have projection equipment installed in the ceiling. The equipment can often be lowered during presentations and raised out of sight the rest of the time. Microphones can be placed in the ceilings of larger meeting rooms so speakers don’t have to raise their voices to be heard by everyone in the room.
Most meeting rooms have some form of whiteboard or dry erase board. Sleek meeting rooms may have camera-controlled interactive whiteboards. This equipment allows anyone in the meeting room to write on a screen with a camera and transfer their notes to the whiteboard in the room. A document can also be placed on the screen to be transferred to the whiteboard for everyone in the meeting to see.
