What’s a Miter Saw?

[ad_1]

A miter saw is a hand saw for cross cuts, which are made at a right angle to the wood grain. The saw’s teeth are angled back and chamfered to cut through wood cleanly. The circular saw cuts parallel to the grain and produces splinters. Miter saw blades need replacing after use or damage.

A miter saw is a specialized type of hand saw designed specifically for creating cross cuts. A cross cut is a type of cut that is made at nearly a right angle and goes in the direction of the wood grain. If you are cutting down a tree, a cross cut would be the type of cut made directly into the tree trunk.
Wood grain is the texture, alignment, and overall look of a piece of wood. A wood grain can be straight, interlocking, or spirally. There are also some unusual types of wood grain, such as those known as tufted, birds-eye, curly, dovetail, and tiger. The miter saw’s ability to cut with the grain is especially beneficial when sawing logs and branches. It is also useful in woodworking when shaping the wood in a particular method requires following the natural grain of the wood.

A miter saw is made with teeth angled back. The miter saw teeth also have a chamfered edge. This design allows the miter saw to act much like the edge of a knife. Thus, the crosscut saw is capable of cutting through wood rather than tearing it like the circular saw.

The circular saw is different from the miter saw in that it cuts in a direction parallel to the grain of the wood. The circular saw works more like a chisel in that it kicks up small splinters of wood to cut through the piece of wood. Despite the differences in the operation of the circular saw and the crosscut saw, both produce a clean cut and are able to cut in a straight line.

After many uses, the miter saw blade becomes dull. The teeth of the crosscut saw blade can also break or chip, or the blade could break completely if too much pressure is applied while cutting. When this occurs, the miter saw blade needs to be replaced. This is accomplished by unscrewing the blade from the miter saw frame and replacing it with a new blade.
