PowerPoint is a program used to create slide-based presentations with text, images, colors, slide templates, and diagrams. A multimedia presentation uses videos, animations, sounds, and GIF images. Only GIF images work in multimedia presentations. Videos and sounds can be embedded in slides, and menus can be added. Multimedia elements are used to add interest and hold the audience’s attention.
PowerPoint® is a Windows® program used to create slide-based presentations with text, images, colors, slide templates, and diagrams. A multimedia PowerPoint® presentation differs from a regular presentation in that many forms of multimedia are used. This includes videos, animations and sounds. While images count as media, only one specific image format is used in a multimedia PowerPoint® presentation. Multimedia is commonly used to add interest to a presentation and to help hold the audience’s attention.
Videos can be embedded in PowerPoint® slides and can compose the entire slide and play full screen or be just a portion of the slide. These videos can be uploaded from your computer’s hard drive or, if the video is uploaded online, the website address can be entered into PowerPoint® and the slide will display the video. People tend to upload videos from a hard drive because if their computer doesn’t have an internet connection or if the website address changes, the video won’t work anymore. PowerPoint® can use many different video formats, so you can embed popular formats.
Most image files won’t work in a multimedia PowerPoint® presentation. The only image type that works is a GIF (Graphical Interchange Format) image. GIF files are images that come in both still and animated formats. Only animated formats work in a multimedia PowerPoint® presentation. These are usually shorter than movie files and may not contain audio.
You can also add sound to your presentation to make it a multimedia PowerPoint® presentation. Just like video formats, PowerPoint® can embed popular audio formats in a slide. These sounds are usually songs or voiceovers that add to the presentation. Sound effects work in a multimedia presentation.
Menus also count as a form of multimedia in multimedia presentations. In its simplest form, this happens when objects are added to the slide and the object is linked to another slide in the presentation. Advanced menu shapes are colorful and animated, but both are considered multimedia.
During the early years of the PowerPoint® computer program, multimedia presentations were rare. This is no longer true, and most presentations, especially professional ones, contain multimedia elements. PowerPoint® has many tools for customizing how media plays or starts, and the size of video or animation. In addition to looking better than static presentations, many people make presentations with multimedia elements to keep the audience’s attention.
