Phlog can refer to a photography blog or an online journal on a Gopher protocol server. Phlogs display photos and are organized as directories with archives. They are often hosted on home servers using UNIX operating system. Flogs, on the other hand, are fake blogs created for marketing purposes.

There are two different definitions of phlog. This term can refer to a photography blog. It can also refer to an online journal that runs on a Gopher protocol server. The latter definition of phlog can also be referred to as rlog.

The term phlog could be used to describe a photographic log. This is a blog that is used to display pictures. A blog is an online journal that is relatively easy to use since it rarely requires knowledge of computer programming and coding. While most blogs are often available for public viewing, some blogs are considered private and can only be viewed by invited guests. A phlog is kept by a blogger and can display photographs and illustrations designed by the blogger or that cater to the taste of the blogger.

The term “phlog” can also refer to a blog-like diary. While blogs tend to be served by World Wide Web sites that share a particular server, phlogs only run on a Gopher protocol server. A Gopher protocol server is an alternative to the World Wide Web. Because the Gopher server is separate from the web, a Gopher proxy must be used to search the web for phlogs. This proxy allows a web browser to use Veronica-2, a Gopher search engine, to search and view a phlog.

Most phlogs tend to be hosted on home servers. These servers often use a UNIX operating system. UNIX is a multitasking, multiuser operating system. It was developed in the early 1970s by a group of AT&T employees. Although the term UNIX is now used to describe any operating system that resembles the original, the term is a registered trademark of the Open Group.

Like blogs, phlogs are often organized as directories. Each phlog entry is marked with a title and the date the entry content was composed. Phlogs also contain archives that are displayed on the side of the screen. Archives give viewers access to past entries.
Due to the phonetic similarity, flogs can often be confused with flogs. A flog refers to a fake blog. These are blogs that have been created by companies, businesses, manufacturers and retailers. Flogs are designed to look like personal diaries or journal entries. They are actually the result of a marketing strategy designed to draw attention to certain products and services.
