Privacy curtains provide temporary visual and audio privacy and have numerous applications in public and private settings. They are commonly used in hospitals, voting booths, conference rooms, and living spaces. Some curtains are treated to inhibit sound.

Privacy curtains are simple devices that can be easily employed to provide a measure of visual and in some cases audio privacy on a temporary basis. The concept of a privacy curtain is often a practical one, but sometimes the device can also be used for aesthetic purposes. There are numerous applications of the privacy curtain in both public and private settings.

Perhaps the most familiar type of privacy curtains today are found in hospitals and other types of medical care settings. Composed of a system that includes suspended curtain rails and long flowing sections of material, a medical privacy curtain can be drawn around a patient’s bed, providing them with privacy while they are being examined by a doctor or nurse. The curtain can also allow people sharing a hospital room to enjoy a degree of separation in the small space, helping to make the space feel more personal and safe.

Along with use in hospitals, privacy curtains are sometimes used with voting machines or booths. When the individual enters the booth, they can activate an automatic closure of the curtains to ensure visual privacy during voting. The curtains operate on a curtain track that will allow the voter or an attendant to open and close the curtains at will, usually with the flick of a switch or the touch of a button.

Cubicle tents are sometimes employed in conference rooms as a way of defining the space set aside for each exhibit. When this is the application, the setup will normally involve a tall curtain along the back side of the space, combined with two curtains dissecting the space on each side. The remaining fourth side is left open to allow people to enter and view the contents of the exhibition.

In addition to use at trade shows and exhibitions, the cubicle curtain is also making an impression in living spaces. As more non-traditional spaces, such as warehouses and office buildings are converted into use as residences, the use of a privacy curtain can be utilized to define functions within the space instead of adding interior walls. Supported by a simple rod, privacy curtains can separate the sleeping area from the living area without incurring a large expense. As a bonus, it’s often much less expensive and time-consuming to change the privacy curtain than it is to redecorate the space.

Some forms of the privacy curtain are treated today to inhibit sound and provide visual privacy. These types of curtains are sometimes used in offices as a means of deadening the normal noise associated with doing business in a small space. They may also be desirable for home use, helping to somewhat muffle the sounds of the television from reaching the bedroom space.
