Separator sheets protect goods during shipping and come in various types including plastic, cardboard, and fiberboard. They can eliminate the need for a pallet and are suitable for transporting various goods, including perishable items. Using separator sheets is cost-effective and provides adequate protection for goods during shipping.
A separator sheet is a type of packaging used to protect goods as they are being shipped from a seller to a buyer. Slip sheets come in several types, some of which use heavy plastic, corrugated board, and laminated board in various combinations. Considered sturdy enough to protect goods in transit, the right configuration of interlayers can eliminate the need for a pallet while still providing the stability needed to ship an entire batch of goods.
One of the most basic slip sheet products is plain plastic sheathing. Typically made from heavy clear plastic, this simple sheet fits over finished products, providing adequate protection during transit. In some cases the sheet is adapted to the dimensions of the box included in the order. With this approach, goods can be stacked on a pallet, covered with slip sheet, and then secured in place using plastic strapping as a means of preventing slippage during the shipping process.
Cardboard and fiberboard may also be included in the overall design of the interleaf sheet. In some cases, the plank can provide the platform for stacked goods, much like the function of a wooden pallet. The cardboard is then coupled with a plastic sheet to fit the goods and additional cardboard supports are placed in each corner and along the top of the complete batch of goods. Strapping is used to hold all components in place. If desired, shrink wrap can be applied, effectively creating another layer that protects the goods from shifting and possible damage in transit.
A separator sheet can be used in packing and shipping many different types of goods. Textiles, electronics, clothing, and any type of non-perishable goods can be successfully transported using this method. Even perishable items such as groceries and frozen foods can be prepared for shipping with the use of a divider sheet, making loading and unloading goods much easier.
One benefit of using slip sheets as part of your commercial packaging and shipping process is that this approach costs significantly less than working with wooden pallets. This eliminates the need to evaluate another charge to the customer for used pallets or make arrangements to return the pallets to the shipper. At the same time, this method provides adequate protection for the shipped goods and will also make it easier to stack those products in a long haul trailer or other type of container.
