Stovetop kettles are made of sturdy material and are ideal for heating water quickly. They have a spout that “sings” when the water boils and are available in stainless steel or cast iron. They work with gas and electric hobs and are easy to clean.

Stovetop kettles are simple pans used to boil water on top of a common household stove. The typical stovetop kettle is made of sturdy material that acts as an excellent conductor of heat and allows the water to come to a boil in a relatively short period of time. Kettles of this type are often used to heat water for tea and similar purposes and include a spout that is configured to “sing” when the water reaches a desirable rate of boiling.

Historically, the stovetop kettle was manufactured using either stainless steel or cast iron. Both metals are ideal for heating water in a short period of time and are also easy to clean. Along with the metal body, the hob kettle usually features a handle which makes the task of placing and removing the kettle from the hob simple and relatively safe. Older stovetop kettles tend to feature a swinging handle that attaches to each side of the body and includes a wooden grip. The newer type of stainless steel kettle normally has a simple handle attached to the top of the body, near the spout. Handles of this type are normally made of heat resistant material, keeping the handle relatively cool to the touch even when the water has reached boiling point.

While newer types of electric kettles are commonly used around the world today, the stovetop kettle still has some advantages. First, the traditional stovetop kettle will work with both gas and electric hobs. This makes the stovetop kettle ideal for use in the home and on camping expeditions, as all the device required is a flat surface placed above a heat source.

Secondly, the absence of electrical mechanisms means that no moving parts need to be replaced, which often helps significantly extend the life of the kettle. Finally, the stovetop kettle can be easily cleaned in the sink or in many cases in an automatic dishwasher, without worrying about damaging any electrical components. When ease of use and maintenance are important, the stovetop kettle is an excellent option.
