Thermal adhesives are used in electronic component creation and heat sink assembly. They allow for orderly heat transfer and can securely attach components without clamps. They are used in placing heat sinks and video card processors and are primarily used by electronic device manufacturers. Mixing is required before use.

Thermal adhesives are various types of adhesive or glue products that are formulated for use in creating electronic components and assembling heat sinks. This particular type of adhesive has the property of being able to allow for the orderly transfer of heat, making it ideal as a means of creating secure paths on various types of computer components. With many applications, a thermal adhesive can be used to attach components to different types of computer boards without the need to use clamps or other devices to handle a secure fit.

One of the more common examples of how a thermal adhesive is used has to do with placing a heat sink on a motherboard. By applying a small amount of adhesive, you can firmly position the heatsink in the ideal position on the motherboard chipset. Once the adhesive has cured, the heat sink will stay in place without issue. Because the thermal adhesive formulation allows for interference-free heat transfer, the efficiency of the motherboard or any of its connected components is not compromised in any way.

A similar application for thermal adhesives is found with the placement of video card processors within the configuration of a computing device. Just as with heat sinks, this adhesive allows processors to be securely held in place without the need to install clamps or clips into the device. In addition to providing a secure grip, the use of adhesive also allows the fixture to be manufactured with fewer parts and saves space that would otherwise be occupied by locking mechanisms. While the amount of space saved is relatively small, this makes it possible to use the space found inside the computer case to a better advantage.

The primary users of thermal adhesives are companies that manufacture electronic devices and devices, as well as companies that manufacture the components that go into those devices. A number of companies that produce iron-on products also market lines geared towards individual use. Computer repair professionals can purchase the adhesive in smaller batches, often at stores that carry a wide variety of electrical components, and keep it on hand for use when refurbishing or repairing a damaged motherboard.

There are a number of manufacturers of thermal adhesive products. Most are formulated to require mixing before actual use. This typically requires combining two different parts of the adhesive just before use, following the instructions outlined by the manufacturer. This process allows the thermal adhesive to maintain its quality and provide the most efficient bond possible.
