What’s a Toothbrush Machine?

Toothbrush machines make toothbrushes in a few steps: shaping the handle, attaching and cutting bristles, and packaging. Handles are made of plastic, and bristles are fixed with a filler and trimmer machine. Toothbrushes are packaged in plastic or cardboard containers to remain sterile.

A toothbrush machine is used to make toothbrushes. A few different machines are required for the process. In a toothbrush factory, there is usually one toothbrush machine that shapes the toothbrush handles, one that attaches and cuts the bristles, and one that packages the toothbrushes into plastic containers. While many toothbrush manufacturers have all of these machines, it is also possible for a factory to specialize in just one of these processes.

The first step in manufacturing a toothbrush is to create the handle of the toothbrush. Historically, handles were made from metal or wood, but now, due to the importance of frequent toothbrush replacement, they are made from plastic. Simple manual toothbrushes and more complex electric toothbrushes require a plastic handle, although the molds used to shape these different types of toothbrushes are quite different. The toothbrush that forms the handles deposits the liquid plastic into a mold and then pushes the handle out of the mold once it has solidified. In building an electric toothbrush, a different machine may be used to install the mechanical components, such as computer chips, power supply and control buttons.

After forming the handles, another toothbrush machine is used to fix the bristles. In modern toothbrushes, these are made from nylon or plastic. A specialized machine, known as a filler, pushes the bristles into holes in the head of the handle and then secures them in place. Another toothbrush machine, a trimmer machine, trims the ends of the nylon bristles so they are all the correct length. In toothbrushes with special bristles, this machine will also cut the bristles at the correct angle.

At this point the toothbrushes are finished, but they still need to be properly packaged so that they remain sterile until they are used. Simple packing machines that simply seal the toothbrush in a plastic bag are often used for discount toothbrushes, while more complicated machines are needed to pack the toothbrushes in hard plastic or cardboard containers. This type of toothbrush machine will form the container to the correct size and seal it around the toothbrush so that dirt and germs cannot enter the container.
