What’s a tropical country?

[ad_1]

Tropical countries are located between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, with the equator at the center. Many countries in the Western Hemisphere, Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and Oceania are within this region. The climate is characterized by wet and dry seasons, with a limited range of temperatures and diverse flora and fauna.

Tropical countries are those that are located within the region called the tropics. The tropics are the area between the Tropic of Cancer, the parallel of latitude at 23° 26′ 16″ north, and the Tropic of Capricorn, the parallel of latitude at 23° 26′ 16″ south. Everywhere in the tropics is hit by the perpendicular rays of the midday sun at least one day a year. At the center of the tropics is the equator, a large imaginary circle around the Earth at a point equidistant from the north and south poles.

Many people associate tropical countries with a few islands and palm trees, but in reality, much of the world lies within the tropics. In the Western Hemisphere, parts of Mexico, all of Central America, all Caribbean islands just south of Nassau in the Bahamas, and the upper half of South America, including Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana , Suriname, French Guiana, as well as the northern parts of Chile, Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil are located within this area.

In Africa, the only nations not in the tropics are Morocco and Tunisia to the north and Lesotho and Swaziland to the south. Everything else lies wholly, or at least in part, within this region.

While no European country is a tropical country, the Middle East has four: Yemen, which is entirely in the tropics, and parts of Saudi Arabia, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates. India, in South Asia, is mostly located in the tropics, like all Southeast Asian countries. Australia, Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, Kiribati, and most other island nations of Oceania in the South Pacific are also tropical countries.

Not all countries in this region have the same climate, but all have a limited range of temperatures and less climate change in a year than those in other areas. Their climate is mainly characterized by wet and dry seasons. The flora and fauna are also diverse, and while palm trees grow in many places, they also grow outside the tropics.
