What’s a truss?

[ad_1]

Trusses are used to hold equipment on stage and can be mounted in various ways. Truss stands are portable and useful for smaller events or backdrops. They allow for easy adjustment of lights and accessories and are less expensive than larger truss systems.

During almost all types of performances, equipment such as lights, speakers, cables and other accessories are present on or above the stage. In order to effectively hold these elements in place, they are mounted on aluminum supports called trusses. A truss can be erected in a number of ways, depending on the application and the amount of weight to be supported; A very portable and easy way to support trusses is to use a truss stand.

A truss is a compact support usually made of lighter metals such as aluminum. The easel has a metal rod or rod system at the top; this is the truss, where lights, cables, etc. can be mounted or run. A truss stand is useful for gatherings, shows, and other indoor or outdoor events where lighting or sound is needed. Truss stands are also useful for mounting small to medium sized backdrops, reflectors or other props.

A trellis stand is usually made to fold for storage. Therefore, they are usually not as heavy as more permanent truss systems. In many theaters and venues, trusses are installed permanently, either by bolting to the ceiling or welding to heavy-duty support systems. Larger lights or heavier systems will require a heavier truss system; a truss stand is a good choice for smaller or fewer lights.

One of the benefits of using truss mounts is the ability to quickly and easily adjust the position of your truss-mounted lights and accessories. With larger truss systems, such mobility is possible but much more difficult and time consuming. The truss stands stay on the ground and can be telescopic out to 2.4 meters or more and can be lowered quickly to eye level. This makes it easier for the truss to drop, so that lights and other accessories can be adjusted, added or removed. Some truss stands use crank levers to raise or lower the stand, making moving the stand less strenuous.

Another advantage of truss supports over larger truss systems is cost. Trusses are significantly less expensive than larger trusses that need to be mounted to a support system. A decent quality truss stand will be practical for most small to medium sized lighting applications at a reasonable cost. There are also supports for heavier trusses available; they will be able to support more weight, but the cost will also increase.
