What’s a Waterpik?

[ad_1]

Waterpik® manufactures water-based cleaning products, including oral care devices like the Waterpik® Benchtop Dental Water Jet, sonic toothbrushes, and shower heads. It was part of Teledyne Technologies before becoming its own entity in 1999. Waterpik® belongs to the category of oral irrigation, which uses a stream of water to clean teeth and gums. It is particularly useful for people with braces or teeth that are too close together for flossing. Waterpik® comes in two varieties: a benchtop model and a cordless portable model.

Waterpik® is a company that manufactures various water-based cleaning products. They are best known for their oral care device, the Waterpik® Benchtop Dental Water Jet. They also make shower heads and other oral hygiene devices, such as sonic toothbrushes. Waterpik® was part of the huge Teledyne Technologies conglomerate.

For many years, Waterpik® was part of a conglomerate group that included more than a hundred different companies, with interests as diverse as insurance and aeronautics. However, in 1999 Teledyne split into three distinct groups: Teledyne, Allegheny Technologies and Waterpik®. Since then, Waterpik® has been its own entity and its organization has grown substantially over the same period of time.

There are different types of oral hygiene, the best known being the toothbrush. Brushing your teeth removes both tartar and dental plaque from your teeth and helps fight gum disease, tooth decay and gingivitis. Flossing, by sliding thin strips of floss between your teeth, is an important addition to tooth brushing, as it removes plaque between your teeth and gets rid of any decaying food that may be stuck there. Some people use interdental brushes instead of floss, as they can be gentler on the gums.

The last common type of home oral hygiene is known as oral irrigation, and it is to this category that Waterpik® belongs. An oral irrigator uses a stream of water to clean the teeth and gum line. Due to the nature of the water flow, an oral irrigator is capable of reaching up to 4mm below the gum line, which is substantially further than both brushing and flossing. Also, because debris is moved and the mouth is washed out at the same time, there is an immediate clean sensation associated with Waterpik®, unlike the sometimes odorous debris left over from flossing. However, due to the relative weakness of a stream of water compared to the driving force of a toothbrush, oral irrigators may not remove a great deal of plaque and tartar.

One area where Waterpik® can dramatically outperform traditional oral care is in dealing with people who wear braces. Flossing around and through braces can be difficult, if not impossible, and brushing around braces can be very difficult as well. A Waterpik® allows for great maneuverability, allowing the user to clean every little space through and around the risers. This also applies to cleaning between teeth that are too close together for normal flossing. While floss can be threaded through clenched teeth in this manner, generally people find this too time-consuming and therefore simply ignore those teeth.

The Waterpik® comes in two main varieties, a benchtop model and a cordless portable model. The cordless model has two pressure settings and a set of removable tips for different teeth and purposes. The benchtop model includes a large tank, ten different pressure settings, and a large assortment of removable tips. The new Waterpiks® also include a tip that a toothbrush is attached to, allowing the user to brush their teeth and clean them with water at the same time.
