Air-powered motors convert air energy into motion and are used in various tools and engines, including mining trains and commercial airliners. Angelo Di Pietro developed the first air motor for cars, and companies like Energy Transport, Engine Air, and K’Airmobiles are currently experimenting with air engines for cars. Air-powered cars could greatly reduce environmental damage caused by gasoline-powered cars.

A pneumatic motor is a type of device that converts energy, in the form of air, into motion. Air movers come in all different shapes and sizes, from handheld to large engines. Many of these engines work through cylinders and pistons, while others rely solely on turbines. There are currently no air-powered cars available to the public, although this may change over time.

Various firearms, dental drills, impact wrenches, and other tools rely on an air motor to function. In addition, overhead engines were frequently used to power mining trains, although the electric train eventually took the place of the air motor train. Additionally, commercial airliners rely on air engines to power the main engines.

In 1950, Angelo Di Pietro created the first air motor that could theoretically be placed inside a car. The Di Pietro Motor air motor gained such a following that the Mercedes Benz company hired Di Pietro to work on the Wankel motor. The Wankel engine was the first of its kind, as it used pressure to create motion instead of pistons.

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Di Pietro developed and refined the Wankel engine. In 1971, Di Pietro immigrated to Australia, where he established his own engineering company. Many years later, Di Pietro’s company, Engine Air, developed the Di Pietro Motor. Although small, the Di Pietro rotary engine is powered entirely by compressed air. The Di Pietro engine can power cars, boats and other automobiles efficiently.

Energy Transport, based in South Korea; Australia-based Engine Air; and France-based K’Airmobiles are three companies currently experimenting with car engines. While companies like Engine Air claim they have developed an air motor that is capable of powering any car, no car manufacturer currently uses this technology.

The possibility of a line of cars that is fully powered by aero-engines is promising. Since these engines do not rely on gasoline to run, the amount of environmental damage caused by cars would be greatly reduced. Currently, the companies mentioned above are perfecting the air engine, and many hope that future cars will not require gasoline at all.

Although the air-powered car has not yet reached the consumer markets, many people believe that this type of engine will soon become quite popular. At the moment, only the smallest tools and some vehicles are air-powered, although this may change once air motors have been perfected.
