“Eviction work” is when someone tries to avoid responsibility for an action by deflecting it onto someone else. This can happen in law enforcement or business settings, and involves deliberate deception to avoid liability.
“Eviction work” is a term that is often applied to situations where an individual or group of individuals takes specific steps to avoid taking some kind of responsibility for an action or set of actions. The term is sometimes used in law enforcement circles, but it can be applied equally in commercial settings. In any situation, an eviction job involves a deliberate effort to deflect responsibility by forcing someone else to take on these undesirable tasks.
As it pertains to police work, the term is sometimes used to describe activities in which criminals strive to divert suspicion from themselves and possibly others as a means of avoiding responsibility for their actions. For example, a fraudster might cook the books in such a way that it looks like someone is investing the company’s funds. Likewise, a murderer may choose to move the corpse from the crime scene and transport it to a different area, in the hope that the police will never connect the crime with the perpetrator. In examples of this type, there is a deliberate effort to deceive as part of the plan to avoid liability for the act.
The same general concept of eviction work can also be found in business settings. Employees who don’t want to be given certain responsibilities may take steps to delegate those tasks to someone else or even try to appear overwhelmed with other work to avoid being assigned a task. A work group may develop a series of rationalizations why a certain task should be assigned to a different group, simply because they don’t want to become responsible for the successful completion of those tasks. For example, an employee might hide the fact that they are proficient in creating proposals to avoid working with a salesperson they dislike.
With any type of eviction work, the idea is to disassociate yourself from any association with something that is considered undesirable. Sometimes it is necessary not only to divert attention to achieve this goal, but it is also necessary to direct this diverted attention to someone specific. When successful, the individual planning the eviction job is able to move forward without experiencing any negative effects from the avoidance and can usually walk away from the situation with little to no regrets for anyone who is adversely affected as a result of their machinations.
