Article marketing uses written text to attract a target market and drive qualified traffic to a website or blog. Links to e-commerce websites, blogs, or company websites can be included in the articles. Keywords and links are used in free article directories to increase visibility.

Article marketing is the use of written informational text designed to attract the interest of the target market. A target market is the type of customers researched and identified as most likely to want or need a particular product or service. Used primarily in Internet advertising, article marketing is a popular method of driving qualified traffic to a website or blog.

Qualified traffic is basically the same thing as the identified target market. Rather than just happening on a business website by sheer accident, consumers interested in certain products or subjects read informational articles about them. Within or at the end of, these written pieces are links to a webpage or blog. A blog or personal web log can be independent of a website or a portion of it.

People who follow a link from the articles to the website or blog are doing so because they are intrigued by the information and are looking for more. This way, they are the target or qualified audience that the article marketer wants to drive to their blog or website. Qualified audiences are more likely to click on web ads or order merchandise than random web page visitors.

The website or blog to which the article marketer links the qualified audience can be of three types. It could be an e-commerce website that sells a product related to the information contained in the article marketing pieces. Or it could be a blog that contains more of the same types of information that appeal to the target market, only this time advertising appears where the article marketer makes a profit, such as in the pay-per-click (PPC) model. In a PPC business model, advertisers are only paid when a website visitor clicks on one of the advertisements displayed on the webpage. The third type of commercial advertising model that Internet articles can link to is a company’s website; they don’t have ads but connect the target market to the homepage, thus introducing qualified prospects to the company’s products, services, background and contact information.

Article marketing is easily done by placing informational pieces in Internet directories. There are many free article directory sites on the Internet. It’s a matter of typing the phrase “free article directories” into a search engine to find a huge list of them. Article marketers often choose several directories to start with and then keep adding more articles and new directory sites. Keywords, such as “shoes” for a shoe company, that target consumers are likely to use in their product and information research should be used in each article, along with links to the website or blog.
