What’s Artificial Turf?

[ad_1]

Artificial turf is a synthetic surface resembling natural grass used for sports, residential and commercial purposes. It was invented in 1960 and popularized in 1965. It comes in three materials: polyethylene, polypropylene, and nylon, each with different properties. It can be easily installed by professionals or DIY.

Artificial turf, also known as synthetic turf, is a type of surface that looks like natural grass. It is used for arena sports, homeowners lawns, and commercial applications. Synthetic turf was created in 1960 by David Chaney, head of the RTP research team. It was popularized in 1965 when it was installed in the Houston Astrodome. Many people have come to appreciate the reduced costs of maintaining artificial grass compared to natural grass indoors.

The artificial turf is available in three types of materials: polyethylene, polypropylene and nylon. The type of material to use is determined by what will be used and what can be afforded. Some materials work better for different uses.
Polyethylene has a very soft texture, making it perfect for play areas. It can be cut to different heights, with three inches being the maximum height before it folds back on itself. It can mimic several types of grass, to include bluegrass and tall fescue. When used on golf courses, it doesn’t work well for a putting green, but it makes for an excellent grass fringe.

Polypropylene is the least expensive artificial turf, making it the most popular and widely used. When used on golf courses, it works well as a putting green due to the natural stiffness of the material. This type of material, however, cannot tolerate heat and will melt at temperatures above 155 degrees Fahrenheit (68.33 degrees Celsius). Unfortunately, blades of grass can only be crafted in one direction, which means that when you place this grass on it, it can only roll in one direction. Works great when setting with the direction of the grass but jumps when setting against or through it.

Nylon is the strongest, highest quality artificial turf you can buy. It will not go dull with extreme weight, unlike other materials. You can park a vehicle on the synthetic turf and it will recover once the car is removed. This material works well in playgrounds as it can tolerate the friction that comes from children running and swinging. The nylon also has a multi-directional interlocking design, making it great for use as a putting surface, as the ball will always roll correctly.

Artificial turf can be installed by a professional or by yourself. It is relatively simple to install, as you just need to clear the area and apply the aggregate for drainage. The area is then raked smooth and artificial turf is laid. The turf pieces should overlap each other by three rows of stitches and pressure is applied to make the seams adhere to each other. The synthetic turf is then secured with 6-inch (15.24 cm) landscaping nails.
