Autosketch is a two-dimensional computer-aided design software for precision drawings in Microsoft Windows. It is easy to use for beginners, automates repetitive tasks, and allows for easy correction and alteration of designs. It offers greater accuracy and scale than hand sketching and retains some functionality of hand sketching through software equivalents. Autosketch also allows for the use and creation of symbols and text in sketches.
Autosketch® is computer-aided design software for two-dimensional drawings. It is intended to enable professional drafters to create precision two-dimensional drawings in Microsoft Windows®. Autosketch® belongs to the same family of software products and is manufactured by the same company as AutoCAD® and Autodesk®.
Autosketch® is intended to be simple enough for entry-level computer-aided design users. Although experience in editing is assumed, the manual devotes a chapter to the transition from paper to software. The main advantages that this type of software offers compared to manual drafting, even for beginners, are the elimination of repetitive tasks through process automation and an ease of correction not possible in manual drafting. Autosketch® computer-aided design also simplifies the alteration of designs, allowing objects to be copied, mirrored, scaled, rotated, stretched, or resized rather than redrawed. Also, elements of an object, such as line width, can be changed after the drawing is created.
The nature of computer aided design means that Autosketch® allows for greater assurance of accuracy and scale than hand sketching. Scale is maintained by working with the actual measurements of the item being drawn and letting the computer take care of the scale when a finished draft is generated. Greater accuracy is possible through the use of grids and the ability to specify exact coordinates and object sizes.
Autosketch® retains some of the functionality of hand sketching through software equivalents. Computer-aided design software mimics the use of transparencies in hand drafting by allowing the drafter to work in “layers,” essentially the software equivalent of transparencies, but with a few more options. Autosketch® also allows the user to zoom and move the drawing to compensate for any limitations in the resolution or display area of the computer monitor.
As with other computer aided design software, Autosketch® allows for the use and creation of symbols for common objects to be used throughout the draft. These symbols can be resized or otherwise modified in the same way as any other object. The biggest advantage over manual templates or stickers, other than editing symbols on the fly, is that the user can edit or update every instance of the symbol in a draft by simply redefining the original.
Autosketch® also allows you to include text in your sketches. Text allows for the normal variation of word processing software, such as font, size, and justification. Autosketch® also has additional options not found in regular word processing to allow the user to correctly indicate types of standard sizes.
