Studies have suggested that they may help reduce the chance of specific types of cancer, such as pancreatic cancer, by attacking certain types of cancerous free radicals in the body. These polyphenols may also reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke by lowering unhealthy cholesterol levels.

Black tea extract has also shown evidence of aiding weight loss. This is due to the metabolic effects of some of the polyphenols; when a person’s metabolic rate is raised, they can supposedly burn more calories even at rest. Lower cholesterol levels and black tea extract’s tendency to improve circulation by increasing oxygen flow may also support weight loss. A doctor should be consulted before introducing herbal supplements into the diet, as they may have adverse side effects.
