Candex is a natural supplement for treating Candida overgrowth. Its enzymes break down yeast cells and carbohydrates, but there is limited research on its effectiveness. Following an anti-Candida diet is recommended. A study claimed improvement in symptoms, but it lacked a control group and has not been replicated or published in a peer-reviewed journal.

The symptoms of a systemic yeast overgrowth can cause a long list of symptoms that can affect almost every system in the body. Candex is an all-natural dietary supplement for the treatment of yeast overgrowth or Candida albicans. Its natural enzymes can digest fungal cell walls and reduce yeast levels in the intestinal tract to a reasonable level. It is recommended that consumers follow an anti-Candida diet during and after using this product. This product is believed to be safe, but few credible research studies have been conducted to determine the effectiveness of this enzyme supplement.

Candida albicans is a fungus that grows in the intestinal tract. Beneficial microorganisms usually keep the fungus in check, but if they can’t, Candida overgrowth results. Excessive growth can cause general fatigue, dizziness, gastrointestinal problems, eczema, acne and irritability, as well as a host of other symptoms.

Cellulase, hemicellulase, amylase, invertase and glucoamylase, the enzymes in Candex, work to reduce the amount of Candida albicans to normal levels. Cellulase and hemicellulase break down yeast cells, while amylase and glucoamylase do the same to carbohydrates before they can ferment and cause more yeast. Invertase breaks down table sugar, a source of energy for yeast.

Pure Essence Laboratories, the makers of Candex, recommends that people taking this supplement also follow a diet that can reduce the amount of yeast entering the body. This means that Candex users should avoid or limit processed meats; Sugar of any kind should also be avoided, including fructose, rice syrup, molasses, honey, sucrose, along with foods that contain flour and fermented foods. Additionally, according to Pure Essence Laboratories, Candex users should eliminate or reduce their intake of caffeinated and alcoholic soft drinks, coffee or tea.

The anti-yeast diet consists of chicken, fish and all kinds of vegetables. The more dietary guidelines are followed, the faster the yeast problem can be brought under control. According to the product packaging, the pills should be taken on an empty stomach with a full glass of water. Candex can also dissolve cellulose capsules containing time-release medications, delivering all medications at once and overriding the time-release mechanism. Those taking extended-release prescription drugs should use Candex with caution and may consult with their health care provider before using this product.

In 2002, the Progressive Medical Group conducted a frequent study on the effectiveness of Candex. The study claimed that 52 test subjects had “at least minimal improvement” in their symptoms. No control group was used during the study, which calls into question the results. Furthermore, the study has not been replicated or published in any peer-reviewed medical journal. Double-blind studies are generally done to objectively validate the findings and determine the effectiveness of this or any other product.
