Once mixed, the dough is kneaded and placed in an oiled or buttered bowl. The dough is turned so that it is coated in oil before being covered and left to rise in a warm, humid place. The dough should double in size within an hour or two.

After rising, the dough is rolled out into a long rectangle. Then, melted butter or milk is brushed onto the dough to wet it before a cinnamon-sugar mixture is spread evenly over the top. Raisins or nuts can also be sprinkled on top if they weren’t already included. Once covered, the dough is then rolled up like a sleeping bag. The ends are tucked underneath and the seams blend together when rolled up.

The rolled bread is placed in a baking dish and left to rise for another hour or two. Hence, it can be brushed with butter before it is allowed to cook. Cinnamon bread should be allowed to cool for at least an hour before slicing.
