What’s eBay® Guarantee?

eBay offers a one-year warranty plan for items purchased through the website, covering 100% of parts, labor, and repairs. The plan ranges from $7 to $300 depending on the item’s price. Two types of plans are offered: Standard Service Plan and Extended Service Plan. The warranty does not cover pre-existing conditions, used merchandise older than five years, or retail items costing over $4,000.

While eBay® encourages sellers to offer buyers a 30-day return window for non-working merchandise, buyers need further reassurance that the product will meet their expectations. An eBay® guarantee offers this reassurance by ensuring that items purchased through the website are protected for up to one year. The warranty plan offers 100% coverage for parts, labor and repairs. A 24-hour toll-free number is available for customers with a warranty, and repair times are usually quick. The plan also has a “No Lemon” warranty which states that if an item is repaired more than three times within a year, the customer will get a new one.

An eBay® warranty is a third party warranty offered to customers by NEW customer service company, which is an extended service plan provider. Plans can range in price from $7 US Dollars (USD) to $300 (USD) depending on the purchase price of the item. Buyers who purchase a plan on eBay® work directly with NEW on repairs or replacements for products purchased from independent sellers on the site. There is no cost to sellers for offering the plan on items they have for sale, and sellers can even receive incentives or bonuses from NEW for participating.

eBay® offers customers two different types of warranty plans. The Standard Service Plan is offered on products purchased from eBay® sellers with no existing warranties. Coverage for these items lasts for one year after purchase. Coverage begins 30 days after the end of the Buy It Now date.

The second type of eBay® warranty is the Extended Service Plan. This plan is available for items with an existing manufacturer or seller service plan. Customers have the option to extend the current item warranty for 90 days, six months or one year. Coverage for the item begins after the manufacturer’s or seller’s warranty expires.

New, used and refurbished items purchased on eBay® carry an eBay® warranty, however the site does not cover seller misrepresented items. Per the Terms of Service agreement, items with pre-existing conditions, used merchandise older than five years, and retail items costing over $4,000 (USD) are also not covered by the warranty. Buyers should evaluate the Terms of Service before purchasing a warranty. Depending on your service plan type, coverage of the item begins 30 days after purchase.
