To show people that different controllers govern certain ports, they’ll be color coded. Intel-managed motherboard connectors are yellow or orange, Gigabyte-managed ones are purple, and Marvell Technology has blue ones, but that’s not always the case. Some manufacturers simply color the doors to make it easier to reference location during construction.
Gigabyte SATA can also refer to the speed of a SATA drive. There are currently three revisions of the SATA interface, each one faster than the last. SATA version one had a maximum speed of 1.5 gigabytes per second (Gb/s), SATA version two reached 3 Gb/s and version three ran at 6 Gb/s. In this case, a three gigabyte SATA drive would be referring to a second generation system.
