When working with heat sink paste, it’s a good idea to wear gloves. While the product is harmless to the touch in most cases, it is greasy and difficult to remove. Wearing gloves will help people keep their hands clean. If an applicator is not available, you can use a toothpick or similar object to pick up small amounts of the heat sink paste and deposit it. It’s important to avoid over-application, as a little paste goes a long way. If too much is applied, when the heat sink and processor are pushed back together, the paste can squeeze between them and create a mess.
