Limeade is a drink made with lime juice, water, and sugar. It can be made with fresh or bottled lime juice and can be sweetened with sugar or simple syrup. Limeade can be artificially colored green and can be made into a cocktail by adding liqueur.

Limeade is a drink flavored with real lime juice or lime concentrate. Similar to lemonade, this drink — often called lime-en-ade — is made the same way, using limes instead of lemons. Typically made from limes, water, and white sugar, the drink is a combination of tart and sweet flavors.

“Hades” itself means a drink based on a single fruit flavor. Such fruits often belong to the citrus family, such as lemons, limes, tangerines or oranges. In cases like this, the suffix “ade” is simply tacked onto the end of a fruit word, such as “orange soda.” Hades is meant to be refreshing and is often associated with hot summer days.

This ade can be made with freshly squeezed lime or real or artificial lime juice. If using fresh limes, consumers should be careful not to accidentally squeeze a seed into their preparations. When using bottled, jarred, or canned lime juice, consumers should check to see if the blend is already sweetened. If so, you may need less sugar in the recipe.

Although water and white sugar are often added to lime juice before pouring over ice, sugar is a preference. Some people prefer unsweetened limes, while others may prefer limes with brown or natural sugar. Additionally, simple syrup – a mixture of sugar and water in which the sugar has already been dissolved in hot water before chilling the mixture – is often provided free of charge in bars and coffee shops. Some people use this popular sugar alternative to sweeten chilled lime, as it is already in liquid form and will therefore have no problem dissolving into the drink.

Typically clear or slightly yellow in color, limeade can also be artificially colored green to match the namesake. This fruit juice blend is not usually charred. In some parts of the world outside North America, however, a carbonated beverage containing carbonation is called by the same or a similar name. People also often use the term limeade for lime-flavored sodas.

Many popular drink brands carry their own version of limeades. In some cases, companies make combination limes, mixing the drink with other fruits such as berries or lemons, thus creating a berry or lime.

Limeade can easily be made into a cocktail. Adults looking to dip into an alcoholic limeade drink need only add liqueur. Vodka – plain, berry or citrus – works like tequila, gin or rum. The cocktail can be enjoyed on the rocks or frozen.
