What’s Nanopaint?

Nanopaint is a type of coating that contains nanotubes and can be applied like regular paint. It can block external influences and allow electronic signals to be transmitted or blocked. It has potential applications in energy efficiency and privacy.

Nanopaint is a type of coating or coating that is applied to surfaces similar to oil- or water-based paint. The main difference with nanopaint is that the compound contains microscopic particles known as nanotubes. A nanotube helps create an effective barrier that prevents many types of external influences from interfering with the function of a particular device.

The nanopainting process is no different than any type of paint project. The compound can be applied with the use of a brush or with a paint gun. Nanopaint is a liquid, so it is spread in an even layer and allowed to dry. Once placed, the nanopaint hardens into a layer that allows electronic signals to be transmitted or blocked, depending on the programming of the nanotubes.

While still in the development stages, nanopaint is already seen as an effective means of tackling a number of different problems. Applying nanopaint to the exterior of a building could be used to block infrared rays and thus help keep the interior of the space cooler, while also allowing solar energy to be absorbed on sunny but cool days. The result of this application would mean spending less energy to keep the space at a comfortable temperature regardless of the outside weather conditions.

The use of nanopaint may also provide a means of addressing some of the simple etiquette issues that have arisen since the advent of the cell phone. Painting walls in theatres, classrooms, libraries and other public spaces where ringing telephones are unacceptable with nanopaint would result in blocking of signals. This would mean fewer incidents of people being subjected to eavesdropping on phone conversations when attention should be elsewhere.

Another anticipated function of nanopaint is to apply a clear coating to glass. This would allow for the creation of opaque glass and other sections of glass that would allow people to see out of the glass, but prevent anyone outside the space from peeking inside.
