Data management companies are often used to design programs that use a person’s information to create a domain manager, from there creating a domain model, which would then create a domain management module (DMM). The DMM incorporates user information to form a data analysis model.

The user modeling results from the data analysis are archived in computer systems and stored in user profiles. Adaptive hypermedia plays a vital role in a successful personal knowledge management program. Computer users have many shortcuts at their disposal and it is often difficult to choose which one would suit the users purpose. Adaptive hypermedia aims to guide the user to links that closely fit the user’s profile and show the user where the information is coming from. In other words, it tailors the website search engines to the user’s personal needs.
