Polypropylene resin is a durable synthetic polymer made from propylene and waste materials. It is used to create a variety of products, including upholstery, plastic items, and fabrics. Its durability makes it ideal for daily use products such as plates and cups. It is also used in electronics enclosures and can be molded into gears and tooling. The final effect can look similar to more expensive products, making it a cost-effective option.

Also known as PP resin, polypropylene resin is a synthetic polymer that can be used to create a variety of products. This polymer is made from a combination of propylene and other materials that were considered waste material in past decades. Since the development of polypropylene resin during the mid-20th century, the resin has been used to make products as diverse as upholstery for car seats and home furnishings, speaker covers and a range of plastic items for use in home as well as in the laboratory.

There are several advantages to polypropylene resin that set it apart from other plastics and plastic blends. One has to do with duration. This type of resin can withstand a great deal of wear and tear, making it ideal for products that see a lot of use on a daily basis. For example, plastic plates and cups made with this type of resin resist well in the dishwasher without warping or degrading in any way. The plates can easily be used for a number of years with no noticeable signs of wear.

Polypropylene resin is also a favorite when it comes to being used in different types of fabrics. The resin can be heated and formed into small fibers that are ideal for use in creating items such as carpeting and upholstery. Since the 1970s many people have bought sofas and chairs upholstered in olefin fiber blends that contain the resin of polypropylene, partly for the durability, but also for the color fastness of the fiber and the flame retardant qualities inherent in the resin.

Other uses for polypropylene resin have been developed over the years. Enclosures for electronics such as DVD players, televisions and speakers are commonly made with the resin. Depending on the amount of heat and pressure exerted on the resin, it can also be used to create garments such as underwear or even diapers of all sizes. Employing injection molding techniques, PP resin can be molded into durable gears or formed into all kinds of tooling.

Depending on the exact process used to customize the polypropylene resin, the final effect can look very similar to more expensive products. For example, molded charging plates made from resin and tempered with some type of anti-static additive will retain a shine for many years, as well as being very easy to clean. The same goes for inexpensive patio furniture created with this type of polymer resin. Adding elements while calibrating and heating the material can give furniture a strong sheen while also helping products resist scratches and stains.
