Shrink wrap is a plastic that shrinks when heated to fit the shape of a product. It can be cut and purchased in various sizes. Shrink wrapping equipment can be expensive, but home use can be done with a heat gun. Shrink wrap protects and displays products, keeping them clean and visible.

Shrinking is the process of covering a product with clear plastic that shrinks when heated to fit the shape of the product perfectly. Shrink wrap, or shrink wrap, is also the term used for the plastic used in this process.

Shrink plastic can shrink up to fifty percent of its original size, so it can be cut quite freely. It can be purchased in large rolls or in a variety of pre-cut sizes. Small uniform items such as CDs can be placed in shrink bags that are already sealed on three sides. The open side is sealed and the entire package is heated so that the bag shrinks to fit snugly.

Shrink wrapping equipment can be expensive for production applications or relatively affordable for home and hobby use. Burden cutters are quite major purchases. They are similar to letter openers, but the blade is replaced with a heated wire. By lowering the cutter onto a folded piece of shrink wrap, the wire contacts the material, cutting, heating and sealing the wrap.

The shrinkwrapper roll is available in a wide range of widths. Typically shrink wrap is folded once before being rolled onto cardboard cylinders. This makes it easy to package a lot of shrink wrap: the material is pulled through a cutter, the item is slipped between the two layers of film, then the cutter cuts the material from the roll and seals it. The item can be rotated 90 degrees and trimmed on the other edges before using the heat element for shrinkage.

For rapid shrinkage, manufacturers use a heating chamber; these come in a variety of sizes and degrees of automation. For home or hobby use, you can use a heat gun or even a hair dryer. If you are using a heat gun, care must be taken to keep the heat source moving. It’s easy enough to burn a hole through shrink wrap by lingering too long on one spot.

Manufacturers and hobbyists alike are turning to shrink wrap to protect and display their wares. An item packed in a store will stay clean no matter how many people pick it up and examine it, but the item inside remains fully visible. Shrink wrap also offers a psychological benefit to the consumer, creating an “untouched by human hands” appearance that makes your products look “factory fresh”.
