The Electronic Filing System (EFS) is a web-based network for the Singapore judiciary and law firms. It aims to make handling and monitoring existing cases easier, minimize physical effort, travel costs and time usage, and efficiently archive legal documents. The EFS provides four services to registered law firms, including electronic filing, retrieval, records, and information services. Law firms can also use the Electronic Mining Service to search and mine documents. Interested law firms can apply online and attend training sessions before using the software.

The Electronic Filing System (EFS) is the latest electronic and web-based network for the judiciary in Singapore. It serves as a tool for recording, archiving and organizing all documents related to court proceedings. The creation of the Electronic Filing System aims to provide the Singapore Supreme Court with a system where the handling and monitoring of existing cases can be easier.

In 2000, the electronic filing system became available for use not only for the Singapore judiciary, but also for all law firms nationwide. Capitalize on the growing popularity of using the Internet and create a shorter method for filing and presenting cases. Clerks and assistants usually travel back and forth to enter documents into the registry system. The new electronic network minimizes physical effort, travel costs and time usage, efficiently and quickly archiving all legal documents. This also greatly reduces any problems related to document retrieval, loss and confidentiality.

The Electronic Filing System provides four services to all registered law firms: the Electronic Filing Service, the Electronic Retrieval Service, the Electronic Records Service, and the Electronic Information Service. All services, except for the latter, are available for use directly on the official site interface. The electronic archiving system allows registered users to electronically archive their documents at any time of the day, any day of the week. Filing service payments can also be transferred online, with accurate bank statements sent to the law firm.

Law firms can use the Electronic Mining Service for two purposes: to search and to mine. All existing documents will appear in the system database, which makes it easier to search. Law firms can also print and duplicate any document when the request is granted by the courts. The electronic document notification feature, on the other hand, has a feature called “One Click File-n-Serve,” which simultaneously sends and serves documents to both the courts and the counterparty. This feature cuts down on unnecessary procedures and “red tape” for anyone who wants to take a case to court.

Interested law firms wishing to use the electronic filing system can apply online. They must submit a completed application form and other required documents before receiving an installer for legal software. Individuals can also attend training sessions prepared by the Singapore Academy of Law before using the software.
