Becoming an MCSE involves passing an exam credit test and taking additional certification exams for each new system released. Microsoft offers courses to help students pass the exams, and there is high demand for MCSE qualified individuals in the computer and communications field.
An MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) is a person certified by Microsoft to work with networking concepts and operating systems. Several years ago, Microsoft opened learning and training centers across the country to teach people how to qualify for the MCSE on Microsoft platforms, and interest has been growing ever since.
A person interested in becoming an MCSE needs to pass the exam credit test. This allows one person to work on the latest system. However, with each new system released, there are other certified exams that an MCSE must take and pass in order to maintain certification. For example, if an MCSE is certified for the year 2002 and 2000, he or she must take at least two certification exams – one for each year of certification.
This certification upgrade continues for as long as the individual wishes to remain an MCSE. The reason for testing and proving proficiency each year is that Microsoft is constantly changing, and information from previous operating systems and networking changes with each new application.
To become Microsoft certified, you must take the Microsoft Certification Exam at a designated Testing Center. Microsoft offers courses to help students pass the MCSE exams. There are, however, limited places for the courses. At the same time, training centers constantly run courses to serve as many people as possible who want to become an MCSE.
It takes time and commitment to take the necessary courses to become an MCSE. Depending on how much time a student dedicates to the process, however, it could take as little as a year. On the other hand, courses can take up to two years. A student who already holds an Associate of Science degree and has applied computer skills can usually make it through the program even faster.
There is a very high demand for MCSE qualified individuals. Employers see certification as an advantage when hiring a new employee, especially in the computer or communications field. While potential employers also consider experience, certification shows that the potential employee has a definite understanding of how Microsoft systems work.
