What’s the pants?

[ad_1]

“Pants” are what the British call “trousers,” with seams creating two leg pieces. They come in various styles, fabrics, and colors, and can be worn for casual or formal occasions. Women began wearing pants in the latter part of the 20th century, and cargo pants evolved from military styles.

“Pants” is the British word for what Americans commonly refer to as “trousers.” These are garments worn on the lower body with fabric surrounding each leg. While skirts and kilts feature material that wraps around the body without sectioning off the legs, pants or trousers have seams that create two distinct leg pieces. Garments are fastened at the waist or hips with items such as buttons, snaps, and/or zippers.

There are many different styles of pants for men and women; These range from casual to elegant. In the United States, “trousers” tends to specify dressier pants, such as those made of wool and worn as part of a business suit. In the UK, “trousers” is never used to describe types of trousers, instead referring only to underpants or underwear.

A good quality pair of wool pants is an ideal addition to most wardrobes. Men can wear slacks with a dress shirt, while women have many different top options. For example, a white blouse gives wool pants a classic office look for daytime, but when paired with a satin or silk blouse, the look is suitable for evening wear, as well as for dinner. Wearing pants with a sweater is a popular fall and winter choice for both men and women.

The pants are available in different fabrics, colors, textures, and patterns. Plain, solid, and wool pant styles in neutral colors are the most classic examples. Black and darker shades of brown and gray are generally worn in the winter, while lighter pants suit spring weather. Lightweight cottons and wools can be used in the summer, as in warm-weather pantsuits.

Men’s pants were the norm until the latter part of the 20th century, when women began to catch on. Pant styles originated from those worn as part of military uniforms. An officer’s trousers were likely woolen and rather dressy, while a field soldier’s style was often made of sturdier material such as khaki.

Khaki casual military pant styles evolved into what is known as cargo pants. These olive green and tan casual pants are also available as shorts; They have many different pockets. While most pants have only top pockets, cargo styles contain storage pouches on the bottom of the legs or on the sides of the pants. Whether casual or dressy, the types of pants for men and women can be looser fit or more skimmed.
