Theme software provides additional themes for software programs or allows users to design their own. It is available for mobile devices, computers, and websites. Some themes are free, while others involve licensed material and are for sale. Desktop and mobile themes include wallpapers, icons, skins, pointers, and sounds.
Theme software has two distinct meanings. On the one hand, it is add-on software that provides the user with one or more additional themes in addition to the default selection in the main software program. Alternatively, it is a package that offers the user to design an original theme for the program.
Theme software in the first definition is made for phones and other mobile devices, desktop and laptop computers, and as add-ons to blogs and other content management systems. Theme software is also available for website design.
Some themes are available for free. For example, there are many free website themes, including e-commerce and blogging websites, each made to work with a specific web host’s website builder and every single type of blogging software. These choices typically offer the user different color schemes and layouts. In any case, there are very simple versions and versions for typical uses, both for the site’s content and for the user’s profession or one of his hobbies. Every company that offers free theme software typically also offers themes for purchase and custom theme designs.
Some themes are limited to layout and color scheme, but others involve licensed material that is very specific. For example, there is themed material related to movies and movie characters, or sports or sporting events, such as the 2010 FIFA World Cup® in South Africa or NASCAR®. This type of theming software is often for sale, rather than freely available, and is often done as an operating system theme, designed to change the look of a mobile device, desktop or laptop in every use. Animated versions of some themes are available. This type of software can be called a desktop theme when it’s for a computer; if designed for a mobile device, it can be indicated by reference to the type of device as in the mobile phone theme or by the manufacturer or name of the mobile device, as in the Nokia® themes.
A desktop theme or mobile device theme includes a variety of elements to change the look and feel of your computer experience. These can include wallpapers, icons, skins for operating system software such as media players, pointers and sounds. Some desktop themes are meant to really spice up the experience, while some are meant to be subtle and not draw attention to themselves. Sometimes a part of a desktop theme, such as a wallpaper or skin, is available on its own, for example, from a site where photography or image design is an important element.
