What’s WordArt®?

Print anything with Printful

WordArt is a tool in Microsoft Word that adds style and character to text, with various effects available. It can be used for titles, headings, and sub-headings, and is popular for school and office presentations. It is easy to use and accessible through a toolbar icon. Alternatives include increasing the size of plain text or copying and pasting from the internet, but WordArt is more practical and manageable.

WordArt® is a stylized printing application used in Microsoft Word®. It is used to bold and add character to text in a document and is included in most Microsoft word processors. WordArt® can be used for titles, headings and sub-headings, or just to spice up plain text. Variations on the original Microsoft application can be found in the form of iWork® for Apple, ScriptFu®, StarOffice® and FontWork®.

Many different special effects can be applied to WordArt® text and these effects can be combined for many styles. To use text, you need to click the toolbar button or drop-down menu, at which point a text box appears. Like any other text, the words to be changed are typed with the keyboard. After the text has been decided, the different styles and formats of the WordArt® are chosen. There are multiple text colors and gradients, as well as many text designs, such as shadows, fades, and stripes.

Text comes in curved and blocked shapes, both thick and thin, and can be manipulated in many ways. Once you’ve decided on the size, type, and shape of your text, you can stretch it to make it wider or thinner. It can also be curved at the edges to fold around other text or images. It can be spun sideways or flipped or printed in a spiral.

WordArt® is popular because it comes with all Microsoft suite applications, including PowerPoint WordArt® and Office WordArt®. Text effects can be applied to spreadsheets, graphs, charts, power point and text documents. They can be accompanied by text or images and can be overlaid with any of these features to create 3D effects and many different layouts. WordArt® is popular for school projects, as well as office and organizational presentations.

Easily used by those who aren’t very computer savvy, WordArt® is accessible with the toolbar icon on any Microsoft program. The icon is an image of a double-block letter “A” tilted to the side. Most programs contain up to 25 different text variations. The manipulative text effects are easy for kids to control, with simple typing, stretching, and moving, and don’t require HTML knowledge.

Alternatives to WordArt® include simply increasing the size of plain text, spacing and adding color, or copying and pasting text from the Internet or other applications. These alternatives are less practical, and some Microsoft programs don’t let you copy and paste text from the Internet. These types of texts are also much less manageable, making WordArt® formatted text easier to manage.
