When to bring kids to weddings?

Children can attend weddings if they are invited, but parents should consider the child’s behavior. Some couples prefer no children at their wedding, except for nursing mothers. Couples may offer an alternative celebration for kids.

One can bring a child to a wedding in some circumstances. The first is if the wedding invitation is directed to the whole family. Especially on the inner envelope of an invitation, there might be the names of all the people invited. If the invitation includes your own children, it’s perfectly fine to include them in the celebration.
However, when considering whether to bring a child to a wedding, one should consider the child in particular. If a child isn’t mature enough to attend a wedding ceremony, or the reception will be too tempting to misbehave, it might be best to call in a babysitter. If, on the other hand, the child is relatively mature and takes directions easily, then the child may enjoy the ceremony and learn a little about what a marriage is like.

Some couples specify that they wish not to have children in order to participate in the wedding. This is the couple’s preference, and you really can’t ask for an exception. If a guest brings a child, other guests may feel annoyed that their children weren’t invited.

The only possible exception may apply to nursing mothers, particularly if they are attending the wedding as part of the bridal party. A nursing mother who has to travel several hours to get to a wedding can be given a pass. However, attendance at the wedding may be limited if the baby starts crying. If the marriage requires extensive travel, this request is considered even more acceptable.

Spouses can still decide not to have children. If someone is expected to attend the wedding but is met with this resistance, then it is okay to decline, in the nicest way possible, to attend. The bride and groom should kindly understand that a woman under these circumstances cannot attend or participate in their wedding.

In a new trend, some couples are now offering an alternative celebration for the kids. They can provide basitter, entertainment, and a kid-friendly meal. This is a lovely gesture that can allow you to fully enjoy a friend’s or family member’s wedding, while knowing that the kids are having a great time.
