California and Texas have the most marriages in the US due to their large population. Florida and New York follow, with Nevada in fifth place due to relaxed laws and Las Vegas weddings. Marriage rates have decreased, but so have divorce rates.
California has more marriages each year than any other U.S. state, according to 2009 data. Measured in absolute numbers (i.e., not relative to total population), California and Texas have the most marriages, likely due to their large population. Florida ranks third, and New York, despite its relatively small geographic size, is the fourth most popular state for weddings. Nevada is the fifth most popular, likely due to its fairly relaxed marriage requirement laws and the fact that Las Vegas weddings have been fictionalized in numerous movies and television shows.
