Boracay is a small island in the Philippines known for its beautiful beaches, including White Beach, Bulabog Beach, Diniwid, and Puka Beach. Visitors can reach the island via flights to Manila or Cebu and then a ferry to Boracay.
Boracay is a tiny, bone-shaped tropical island in the Philippine archipelago, located in the Western Visayan Region. The island is only 4.3 kilometers long and, at its narrowest point, only 7 kilometers wide. Boracay is a prime vacation spot in Southeast Asia and is known for its beautiful scenery, shimmering white sand and crystal clear waters.
There are four main beaches in Boracay, the first of which is White Beach, which is the main tourist attraction. White Beach boasts world class resorts, hotels, budget cabanas, restaurants and various forms of nightlife. A varied selection of cuisines is available, largely due to the settlement of foreigners in the area.
Bulabog Beach is on the other side of the island. Windsurfing, sailing and kitesurfing are popular here. Paraw sailing is also worth a try. A paraw is a native sailboat mostly used by the locals.
North of White Beach is Diniwid, a relatively large bay. This beach can be reached by walking north on White Beach to the “cave” and then crossing the “bridge” or by taking a trike – similar to the Thai tuktuk – through the backcountry roads. It is known for a quieter atmosphere and is located away from the crowds. Some hotels have nested some of their rooms into the cliffs, from which there are breathtaking views of the area.
The last beach is Puka Beach, a relatively empty strip of the same white sand and crystal clear waters. Puka Beach is located near a marine sanctuary.
Boracay can be reached via Manila or Cebu in the Philippines. The prospective tourist must fly to one of these cities and then take a 45-75 minute flight bound for Kalibo or Caticlan. If arriving via Caticlan, the tourist only needs to find his way to the pier (about 5 minutes) to board one of the ferries to Boracay. The ferry journey takes approximately 20 minutes.
If the Kalibo route is used, the tourist will need to take a 3-4 hour bus ride to the Caticlan jetty port. At the pier, the tourist takes a ferry to the island.
