The QE2 cruise ship had the world’s largest consumption of caviar, with guests eating about a ton a year. It made its maiden voyage in 1969 and crossed the Atlantic Ocean at least 800 times. After being sold to a Dubai investment firm in 2007, plans to turn it into a floating hotel failed.
The world’s largest consumption of caviar occurred on Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), where the ship’s passengers ate about a ton a year. Queen Elizabeth 2 is a cruise ship that made her maiden voyage in 1969 from Southampton, England to New York, USA. Her last trip took place in 2008 after being sold to a Dubai investment firm a year earlier. The cruiser is 963 feet (293.5 meters) long and 105 feet (32 meters) wide. She has capacity for 1,791 guests and 921 crew. Guests not only consumed the largest amount of caviar in the world during the impressive ship’s 30-year history, but also immense amounts of food and drink. More than 150,000 gallons of beverages were consumed and approximately 70,000 bottles of champagne were uncorked annually. It would take an individual close to two years of age to consume the breakfast cereal eaten in a single day on Queen Elizabeth 2.
