Yeast-containing foods like bread, beer, and grapes can cause allergic reactions in some people. Symptoms of yeast allergy include digestive problems, skin rashes, nasal congestion, and itchy or watery eyes. In severe cases, it can cause throat tightness and require immediate medical attention.

Although they can be very appetizing, some people cannot eat foods that contain yeast. Common yeast-containing foods include sandwiches, bagels, bread, beer, wine, and some fruits such as grapes. For some people, consuming a food filled with yeast will initiate an allergic reaction. In this case, the person can be said to have a yeast allergy, which can cause various disturbing symptoms. While these symptoms vary in each person, some of the more common yeast allergy symptoms include digestive problems, skin rashes, nasal congestion, and itchy or watery eyes.

Digestive problems are common symptoms of a yeast allergy. Consuming a food containing yeast can cause a variety of gastrointestinal upsets. Some people may have diarrhea, while others may have the exact opposite problem and suffer from constipation. In any of these events, the individual will likely have abdominal pain which may be accompanied by abdominal cramps. Other digestive problems caused by a yeast allergy can include abdominal distension or bloating, nausea, and vomiting.

Rashes can also be symptoms of a yeast allergy. Usually, a rash is one of the first symptoms of any type of allergic reaction. An individual with a rash may develop small red raised bumps on the skin. Also, as part of the reaction, a person may develop a skin irritation that can cause large patches on the skin, as is the case with hives. Over-the-counter medications may be given for a rash, such as an antihistamine, however, some cases may require medical intervention to treat the reaction.

Additional yeast allergy symptoms may include nasal congestion, runny nose, watery eyes, and itchy eyes. Some people may have a combination of several of these symptoms. For example, individuals may experience both nasal congestion and a runny nose at different intervals during an allergic reaction. In most cases, itchy eyes cause watery eyes, so these symptoms can also be combined. Often, if they are allergic, individuals will also experience headaches after eating yeast-containing foods.

The number of yeast allergy symptoms a person can experience can be numerous. With each allergic reaction to yeast, a person may experience different symptoms. Sneezing, coughing and tiredness can be added symptoms. Some reactions may include sore throat, and in severe cases, the throat may feel tight as if it is trying to close. If a person experiences this symptom, becomes extremely weak, or passes out, immediate medical attention should be sought, as it could be a life-threatening situation.
