What’s Telecom Industry?

[ad_1]

Telecommunications is the global industry of providing electronic devices and technologies for communication. It includes telephones, radios, computers, and related networks using wires, radio signals, and satellites. The industry has shifted from analog to digital technology, including VoIP and cell phones. Other industries include radio, television, and the Internet, which has become a dominant force in telecommunications.

The telecommunications industry is the global business of providing electronics and technologies to enable people to communicate with each other. The term telecommunications means communicating on technological devices. The primary tools typically used in this industry are telephones, radios, televisions, computers, and related networks. Communications generally move between this equipment using wires, radio signals, and satellites.

The telephone is a telecommunications device that typically allows voice communications between people. For the most part, analog phones, also known as landlines, have been the standard in the telecommunications industry. Analog phones convert sound waves into electronic signals that pass through wires. These cables connect homes and businesses to switchboards that route telephone signals to their destinations.

Many analog networks have integrated digital telephone technology into their systems. Digital telephony, also called VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), is becoming an important part of the telecommunications industry. This converts voice into digital information that can be sent efficiently over data streams, such as the Internet or over wireless signals.

Cordless phones, also called cell phones or cellular phones, use wireless radio signals that communicate with signal towers to route voice information through the air. These types of phones have grown in popularity so much that cell phone subscriptions outnumber landlines in many areas. These phones often allow for more types of communication than just voice. They may also have the ability to transfer data, such as text messages, emails, photos or music, and allow access to the Internet.
Other industries that fall under the telecommunications industry are radio and television. Radios use radio waves to send hearing information wirelessly to receivers. Television uses a similar method to transmit visual and auditory information. Many radio and television services have moved to digital broadcasting which allows information to be transmitted via signal towers, the Internet, cable technology or satellites.
The Internet is a global network of computers that communicate with each other using a standard code, or language, called the Internet Protocol (IP). Using it, communications such as text, photographs, music and graphics can move across the Internet as digital information. Typically, IP breaks this information into packets, and each packet can then be sent via the most efficient Internet route to its target or recipient. Packets are reassembled from IP to destination.
The Internet has become, in many ways, a dominant force in the telecommunications industry. Most of these companies use the Internet in some way to transmit communications. Many industry professionals suggest that this trend will continue as technology advances.
