Ibiza is a Spanish island in the Mediterranean Sea, part of the Balearic Islands. It has a Mediterranean climate and is known for its energetic nightlife and electronic music scene. The island has a rich history and is home to various tourist attractions, including protected areas and a monument to Christopher Columbus.

Ibiza is an island in the Mediterranean Sea located off the coast of the Iberian Peninsula. Ibiza is part of a chain of islands known as the Balearic Islands which belong to the country of Spain.

Together, Ibiza and Formentera form the Pitiuses or Isles of Pines. This name for the two islands comes from the Greek pitys, meaning pine, as both Ibiza and Formentera feature large numbers of pine trees. Ibiza is the Spanish version of the island’s name, while in Catalan, another language commonly spoken in Spain, the island is called Eivissa.

Throughout history, the island of Ibiza has been home to Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Assyrians and Moors. Although today, part of the country of Spain, Ibiza and the other three Balearic Islands of Formentera, Majorca and Menorca are known as the Balearic Autonomous Community, and are therefore considered autonomous in terms of administration and government.

As you might expect, Ibiza has a Mediterranean climate which means that temperatures generally range between 60° Fahrenheit (15° Celsius) in the winter months and around 85° and 90° Fahrenheit (29°- 32° Celsius) in the summer.
Ibiza is known worldwide for its energetic nightlife and is a major venue in the electronic music scene. The popularity of Ibiza’s nightlife could be indicated by the fact that Ibiza is home to the largest club in the world, called Privilege. Other Ibiza clubs offer fun events such as water and foam parties, where clubgoers mingle and dance under a shower of water or while wading through frothy bubbles.

Electronic music is played in clubs, pre-party bars and even outdoors in large festival-style venues. DJs, famous and not, treat partygoers to a mixture of house music, trance music, and electronic dance music, among others. The peak of the party season usually lasts from June to October.

Although Ibiza’s popularity with tourists lies mainly in its identity as a music and party destination, there are other tourist attractions to see on the island. A large part of the island is protected from commercialization and development, including Benirras Bay which is a United Nations World Heritage Site. Another popular attraction is a monument to Christopher Columbus, known colloquially as “The Egg.”
