Music cards are a fun way to add humor or thoughtfulness to a greeting card, with varying types of music available. They can be expensive, but e-cards are a cheaper option. Recordable cards allow for personalization, but equipment can be costly. Ready-made music cards are available for different occasions, but eventually stop playing music. Permanent recordings are recommended for long-lasting memories.

Musical cards are a fun way to enhance the thoughtfulness or humor of a greeting card. Most have a small device built into the card, which plays music when the card is opened and is powered by a tiny battery. The types of music can vary greatly and can include birthday songs, Christmas tunes, or other popular themes such as those from the Star Wars movies. Unlike the standard greeting card, expect music cards to be three to four times as expensive, but may be worth it in the smiles and happiness they can produce.

Not all music cards are expensive because some are e-cards. Unlike physical music cards, many companies allow people to send electronic cards for little or no cost. These can not only include music, but also fun animations.

In contrast, music cards sold in stores usually don’t have significant animation, although some may have moving parts on the card. An alternative to these papers has recently been produced by companies such as Hallmark®. Instead of playing music, a card could be recordable. This allows people to record a short message that can be played back to the card recipient by pressing a button. Many consider these cards to be a great way to personalize a card, especially for those who don’t get much opportunity to see each other in person or even talk on the phone often.

Gifted programmers can create their own recordable cards or music cards. Equipment can be purchased that will allow a person to self-design the music being played and incorporate it into various greeting cards. The downside to this form of card is that the prices for music playing equipment tend to be much higher than the prices for purchasing music cards. People may also need to have some programming skills to be able to program recording equipment to their specifications.

For most people, it just makes more sense to buy ready-made music cards or send e-cards with music and animations. The many types available mean that cards can be sent for so many different occasions. There are types of music cards which are birthday cards, holiday cards, and thank you or “thinking of you” cards. Some are just greeting cards that can be sent any time of the year.

Eventually, the music paper will stop playing music, although it can last for a few years, especially if it’s not played often. This can be important to consider when choosing recordable cards. If something like a child’s voice is captured on a card, it may eventually be lost. A better bet is to create a permanent recording of your voice or greeting and store it on a computer or something like a CD. This way the voice or message can be enjoyed for years to come.
