Boardwalks are wooden paths along coastal areas that can serve various purposes. They can be used for strolling, fishing, or as a bridge. Boardwalks are surrounded by tourist attractions and many famous ones exist in the US, including Atlantic City’s 4-mile-long boardwalk. Boardwalks have cultural significance, appearing in Monopoly and music.

A boardwalk is any of several boardwalks that run along a coastal area and can serve many different purposes for the pedestrians using it. The typical specimen is made of wood and is located along a beach, but the composition and location are not absolutely bound to these specifications. Its length can be a few hundred feet (or meters) and up to several miles (or kilometers).

Some boardwalks are designed simply to give people a nice place to stroll along the water and enjoy the view, and others are built for more specific purposes like fishing or to be used as a bridge over a beach or water. It can be used to elevate a walkway above a marsh in a park, or it can be a path that runs alongside storefronts in a beach area. First, a boardwalk is usually surrounded by attractions that are used to attract tourists to an area.

There are many historically famous boardwalks in the United States alone, and many of these reside on the East Coast. Of these, the most popular is in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and is one of the oldest and longest running in the United States. Along its more than 4 miles (6.4 km) length, there are many activities including gambling, amusement rides, concerts, shopping, and many other tourist attractions. While not all boardwalks contain as many things to do along the same boardwalk, most do contain quite a bit.

One of the most famous uses of the boardwalk in popular culture is in the Monopoly board game, where the Boardwalk property is the most expensive to buy. Another example in popular culture is the song “Under the Boardwalk” which was performed by The Drifters in 1964. Known for their aesthetic value, they have also been featured in many movies and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in California, for example, has been featured in many movies and music videos.
