Passenger aircraft are designed to carry people, with features such as pressurization systems and air purification. There are two types: private and commercial, with varying sizes and amenities. Commercial aircraft have different classes, with luxury options available.

A passenger aircraft is an aircraft that has been designed and equipped to carry passengers, as opposed to a cargo aircraft, an aircraft designed for cargo. Passenger aircraft have a number of features that make them particularly suitable for carrying humans, ranging from seats for passengers to pressurization systems that make the cabin environment safe for passengers.

There are two types of passenger aircraft: private aircraft and commercial aircraft. Private aircraft are designed to be flown or chartered privately and are typically small, with passenger capacity of less than 12. Commercial aircraft, in contrast, are used by airlines to carry large numbers of passengers. In addition to being larger, commercial aircraft are also faster and have a longer range. Both tend to be quite expensive, although some private planes are quite affordable for the flying enthusiast.

From a health and safety perspective, the key difference between a cargo aircraft and a passenger aircraft is the use of a pressure and climate control system in a passenger aircraft. This system keeps the air in the aircraft cabin comfortable and prevents rapid depressurization, which can be deadly. Passenger aircraft also have air purification and recirculation systems that provide passengers with oxygen to breathe. Without these measures, an aircraft cabin would be inhospitable once the aircraft reaches altitude. Some private aircraft do not have climate and pressure controls and are therefore only suitable for low-level flights.

In addition to the design features that keep passengers alive, a passenger aircraft also has features that keep passengers comfortable, starting with the seating. Commercial aircraft usually include restrooms and some also have a galley area where food and drinks can be prepared. Larger commercial aircraft also usually have entertainment systems that allow passengers to listen to music, watch movies, and perform other activities while the passenger aircraft is in the air.

Commercial airliners are classically divided into various classes or cabins, with varying degrees of luxury. Tourist, economy or third class have only the most basic amenities, while business or second class is more comfortable. First or luxury class on a passenger aircraft may include features such as chairs that recline over beds for long-haul flights, real food-service china rather than plastic trays, and services such as massages and manicures for weary passengers.
