What’s prom?

Prom is a memorable event for high school freshmen and sometimes seniors. Attendees ride in limousines, take formal photos, and dance without alcohol. Costs can be high, especially for girls. Students may work to pay for prom, but it’s worth it for a fun night they’ll remember forever.

Prom is an elaborate event attended by young adults in their freshman year of high school. Depending on the school, there may be an additional prom in the senior year as well. It can be one of the most memorable nights of a teenager’s life, and there is a lot of planning, preparation and excitement involved in preparing for it.
Limousines are typically hired to take teenagers to prom, and several attendees ride in each one. The young people go to the place where it will take place, usually in a hall, and dance and eat in the presence of the school leaders. Here, formal photos are taken by a professional photographer and a professional DJ plays the music. The school never allows alcohol and if someone doesn’t follow the rules there can be serious consequences.

While many attendees select someone from their grade level to take as a date to prom, there are those who go a different route. Junior and senior students can not only choose to take those in freshman or sophomore classes, but they can also choose to take someone who is not in their school. Help students have more options for who they can share their special night with.

Prom can end up being quite expensive. Teen boys who attend usually pay less for the cost of prom than girls. They have the cost of tuxedo and shoe rental, prom tickets, a corset for their date, their own seat in the limo, and their share of photos. Teenage girls who participate usually have to pay more because they have the cost of their prom dress, which can sometimes run into the hundreds of dollars. Additionally, each girl has to pay for the cost of her prom ticket, her seat in the limousine, her share of pictures, a boutonniere for her date, the cost of getting her hair and nails done, and a few other additional expenses.

If someone in the junior or senior class decides to take a date who is a lower class guy or someone who is not in the same school, prom costs can add up. He or she may then end up paying most, if not all, of the expenses instead of being split relatively down the middle. For example, she may need to pay for two limousine seats, two tickets to the prom, and full price of photos to cover her personal and date costs.

Because of all the preparation that goes into getting ready for prom, attendees usually start several months in advance, whether it’s choosing what they’ll wear or who their dates will be. While it can be an expensive night, it doesn’t have to be. You can make cuts and skip the extras to make the total cost much less than you would otherwise expect. Considering how much the night can cost, many students get a job or work extra hours at the job they already have in an effort to pay for it.

Despite all the preparation that goes into prom and how much stress it can be involved, it usually turns out that it’s actually worth it. Students have the opportunity to have fun in a way they are not normally able to. It can end up being a night where they remember all of their lives.
