Rose quartz is a pink stone formed deep within the earth due to specific conditions. It is not considered a gemstone and is often tumbled and smoothed into round beads. Rose quartz is believed to help attract love and overcome emotional pain in some earth-based religions.

Rose quartz is a type of stone that exhibits hues in various shades of pink and other related colors. It can be pale pink, deep pinkish-red, and sometimes even light lavender. Like all other types of stones, it is made deep within the earth when specific minerals are subjected to heat, pressure, or both. The internal structure of the stones, as well as their color, are attributed to the specific conditions in which they were created. Rose quartz gets its color from small amounts of manganese, iron, or titanium.

This type of quartz is not considered a gemstone. Also, it is on the lower end of the spectrum among semi-precious stones. The color is not considered as attractive as brighter stones like amethyst and garnet. While there is some variation in depth of color in these stones, they are almost never as pale as your average piece of rose quartz. Additionally, the minerals within quartz are photosensitive. This means that after a period of exposure to light, the already pale hue of the stone may fade.

There are other reasons why rose quartz is not as prized as other gemstones. For one thing, it’s not completely clear or opaque. The interior of a piece is often milky and varies in depth of color. In addition, the stone often has large defects, such as visible irregularities or even traces of other types of stone. For these reasons, rose quartz is almost never cut into a faceted gem. Rather, the stone is tumbled and smoothed so that it simply has rounded edges. Therefore, it is often shaped into round beads.

The first rose quartz was discovered in the United States, near Rumford, Maine. However, most of the North American market is imported from South America. In fact, most of it comes from Minas Gerias, Brazil. Although this stone does not have the same kind of popularity as others such as jade and turquoise, it is often used as an accent stone along with more brilliant ones.

In some circles, gemstones are believed to directly correlate to a mystical system of energies. Many earth based religions strongly believe in the magical properties of gemstones. In such belief systems, rose quartz is prized for helping people attract love and overcome emotional pain.
